“Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
Matthew 2:2 King James Version
When I was a young girl sometimes my mother would take my siblings and me to my grandmother’s church. It was a small church out in the country on a dirt road. One of the things I loved to see my grandmother and her sisters do was line up and march into the sanctuary singing “Soon and very soon we are going to see the King, hallelujah, hallelujah, we are going to see the King!” I didn’t know the depths of those beautiful lyrics as my eyes would gaze at my beautiful grandmother and my great aunts. How I miss those beautiful ladies. They are resting now until that glorious day King Jesus rend the heavens and call them from the grave and they are caught up to meet Him in the air.
Just like we are anticipating His second coming there were those in the bible who had been studying just like we do today awaiting our newborn King. In the gospel of Matthew chapter 2:1-2 it is written “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
The bible says when the Wise Men saw the child with his mother Mary, they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. I can’t help but wonder when we come to Jesus and we are worshiping him in spirit and truth what gifts are we presenting to our King?
When the Wise Men went to see Jesus they didn’t come empty-handed. They brought highly valued gifts to the newborn King. Jesus loves when we worship Him and He loves all the more when we present Him with our gifts. Now you may ask what do you mean? I have nothing to give and no gifts to bring! I have good news for you! All of the God’s children’s have gifts. The scriptures say in James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows”
All of God’s children’s have gifts but it is up to us whether we use them to glorify God. If you can sing use that gift to glorify God! If you can paint well or is good with children use your gifts to glorify God. If you feel you have no gifts to bring, come to Jesus anyway, and He will reveal and unfold every good and perfect gift you didn’t know you had. All of God’s children bring something to the table when we surrender to Him.
You may not be able to preach a sermon where the whole city comes out to hear what God will say through you, but you can pour into that struggling single mother encouragement from the word of God. Use what you have!
The Wise Men bowed down and worshiped Jesus and presented Him with gifts. After you have worshiped the King are you using your gifts to present Jesus to the world? Are you presenting Jesus to your next-door neighbor? Are you letting your light so shine before men that your Father in heaven is glorified? I sure hope so!
Those beautiful words my grandmother and great aunts song so long ago I find myself singing now “Soon and very soon we are going to see the King” and when I see my Savior face to face my soul will be exceedingly glad. To look upon the one who died for my sins will be a day of rejoicing.
I want to see my grandmother, my dear sister, great aunts, and many more who will be called from the grave. I don’t know about you but I want to be among those who say, “Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”
Jesus has been and always will be King of Kings and Lord of Lords! My prayer is that when we decide to come to Jesus we come with our treasures and gifts to bring glory to His name. What gifts and treasures will you present to Jesus during this holiday season and throughout your Christian journey?
