Did You Ask God?

“Worry is blind, and cannot discern the future; but Jesus sees the end from the beginning.”

— Ellen G White

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Matthew:7:11

So often when we are faced with difficult trials our first thought is how am I going to get out of this? Who can I call on that will help me? In reality, God is not always the first person we seek although the scripture tells us to seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew:6:33

Instead, we seek family members, friends, and the church. For many people family members, friends, and the church has become their crutch. They have no relationship with God because their family, friends, and church family get them out of the trials they face every time, and instead of seeking God they seek people.

Are we as family members, friends, or the church handicapping the body of believers by always coming to their rescue? Now don’t get me wrong we are supposed to help people the word of God encourages us to do that.

If you look at the life of Jesus when the disciples had been fishing all night and caught nothing Jesus told Simon to launch out into the deep and let His net down. Now, Jesus could have commanded the fish to get in the boat, but He didn’t, He told Simon to launch out into the deep and let His net down and Simon took Him at His word. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. Luke:5:6

Are we encouraging one another to launch out into the deep in our prayer life? Are you willing to go deeper with God in prayer and bible study?

How can we take Jesus at His word when we never allow Him to work in our lives? We seek everyone but Him? Jesus wants you and I to ask Him. God withholds no good thing from those who walk uprightly.

Yes God uses people to bless us. Yes, your friends, family, and church family should help you. We are supposed to help one another, but don’t make them feel obligated to do so especially when you never asked God for guidance.

Friends, family, and the church is not your crutch. We are to encourage you on your journey with Christ not hinder you by being your rescue in times of distress. Only Jesus can truly rescue you. What man does for you is only temporary, man’s resources are limited, but what Jesus has to offer leads to eternal life. Have you asked God for help in times of trouble? Your Father in Heaven is ready to give good things to you but you have to ask.

Let us pray,

Lord Jesus, please forgive us for asking everyone else to help us in difficult times and not praying and asking you first. Forgive us for putting our trust in people and causing them to feel obligated to help us when we should trust you with the trials in our lives. Help us Lord to realize we can always come to you in prayer and ask for help. In Jesus’ name, I pray Amen.
